What Do you Say in A Cover Letter?

A cover letter is a letter of introduction sent along with a résum é or curriculum vitae (CV) . How do you write a successful cover letter?

Bear these points in mind, and you' ll always make a great impression.

Keep your cover letter brief and to the point. Writing more than one page is usually unnecessary. If it is sent in an email, writing three short paragraphs is quite sufficient.

Explain why you are sending a résumé. Don' t make the reader guess what you are asking for. Tell specifically how you learned about the position or the organization – a flyer posted in your department, a web site, a family friend who works at the organization, etc.

Convince the reader to look at your résumé. The cover letter will be seen first. Therefore, it must be very well written and targeted to that employer.

Call attention to your background – education, leadership, experience – that is relevant to the position you are seeking.

Provide any information specifically requested in the job advertisement that might not be covered in your résumé, such as availability date, or references.?

操作提示: 正确选 T, 错误选 F。

(2)The cover letter is usually more than one page.

听力原文: In public speaking, the watch word is preparation. Most of us tend to put things off, at least occasionally. It's so easy to put things off especially those things we do not look forward to doing. So if the speaking engagement is several weeks off, we may feel that we still have plenty of time. But as the day draws closer, we begin to panic. Don't let this happen to you. Start preparing as soon as you're given or accept the speaking assignment. You have much to do and to do it right will take time. How much better your speech will be and how much better you'll feel if you have taken the time to do it right! When you are prepared, you have gathered the needed data, determined what is appropriate to the listener's understanding and acceptance levels, organized the ideas so they flow logically, selected examples and other supports for your ideas and made them interesting to your listeners, developed a great opening that you know will capture the attention of even the daydreamers in your audience checked out the room where you'll be speaking and requested any feasible changes you wish in the set-up of the room If you are prepared, you are confident that you can best convey your message to your listeners. If you waited until a few days before your presentation to begin to prepare, or worse, yet, the day before, no doubt you'll be anxious and with good reason. And now there is not enough time to engage in more than a superficial attempt. Both you and the audience will feel uncomfortable, like retirement planning. It is never too early to start preparing for your presentation. So, start preparing right away.

(33)

A.Confidence.

B.Preparation.

C.Informativeness.

D.Select appropriate materials.

The best kept secret in San Diego is waiting to offer you a delightful getaway -- without
leaving town.

Less than three years ago, the Parisi Hotel was just an office building above the shops on the corner of Prospect Street. Now, that valuable space is an intimate luxury hotel -- with several rooms overlooking the ocean. You'll be amazed when you enter from the corner and ascend the curving staircase to the second-floor lobby. It will take you into a different world.

What will you find when you enter the large contemporary lobby is a handsome and peaceful space that was designed with a hint of Tuscany (托斯卡娜,意大利中西部地名) in its modern Mediterranean (地中海式的) style. The lobby has a large fireplace with comfortable sofas in warm neutral colors surrounding it. You'll feel relaxed just sitting there with its skylight overhead letting in the morning sun.

All the rooms are more like suites, with large comfortable beds, beautiful baths and stylish custom- designed furnishings and art throughout.

The Parisi Hotel is the perfect place for seniors because it's quiet and restful -- with only 20 rooms. You won't find many hotels like this in the center of a tourist town.

The shops are all around you. Likewise for some of the city's best restaurants, you will never have to take your car out of the garage during your stay. And, by the way, the underground parking lot at the Parisi Hotel is free for hotel guests.

Once you stay at this little gem (珍宝), you'll want to return again and again. I know we do. It's a perfect place for seniors.

Rates for standard suites begin at $275. You can call the hotel for reservation at (858) 454-1531. The Parisi Hotel is located at 1111 Prospect St. right across from La Valencia.

The Pafisi Hotel is described as ______.

A.a luxury hotel with comfortable facilities

B.a large hotel famous for its rooms facing the ocean

C.a good place for escaping away from the noisy city

D.a tourist attraction full of amazing corners

Self-esteem(自尊)and Self-confidence 1.Think back to when you did something new for the fi
rst time. Self-confidence isn't always what we think it is. Many experts say that self-confidence and self-esteem are different. Self-confidence is about what we can do by virtue of our efforts, It grows along with the quality of the effort. 2.Self-esteem is more fundamental(基本的)and is about the feeling of being worth something, just because we are, and not because we have done something. A good sportsman can have a huge success and self-confidence, because he's good at his sport. In the same time his self-esteem can be low, if his parents have never recognized and treasured him for the person he is deep inside, but only for his performances in sports. 3.Build self-esteem if you were not born with it. Some people just have it, as if they were born with it. They talk in front of a crowd of people, sell themselves at job interviews or start an interesting conversation with people they've never met before. 4.Self-confidence isn't something you receive as a birth gift. It's something you develop gradually as you turn over the pages of the thick book of life. If you work goal-directed to improve your belief in yourself, you'll eventually build up your courage to do what self-assured(自信的)people find natural, instead of developing pounding hearts, breathing difficulties and trembling hands. 5.Regardless of fear and shyness you'll have to get out of your hiding to improve your self-confidence.
