Translate the following into Chinese.

Attention to detail is something everyone can and should do especially in a tight job market. Bob Grossley, a human-resources expert notices this in the job applications that come across his desk every day. “It’s amazing how many candidates eliminate themselves.” He says.

“Resume(简历) arrive with stains. Some candidates don't bother to spell the company’s mane correctly. On seeing such a mistake, I eliminate the candidate,” Crossley concludes. “If they cannot take of these details, why should we trust them with a job?”

Can we pay too much attention to detail? Absolutely. Perfectionists struggle over little things at the cost of something larger they work toward. “To keep from losing the forest of the trees”, says Charles Garfield, associate professor at the University of California, San Francisco, “we must constantly ask ourselves how the details we’re working on fit into the larger picture. If they don't, we should drop them and move to something else”.

Knowing where we want to go helps us judge the importance of every task we undertake.Too often we believe what accounts for others’ success is some special secret or a lucky break(机遇). But rarely is success so mysterious. Again and again, we see that by doing little things within our grasp well, large rewards follow.

According to new research of Prof.Randolf Menzel from the Free University in Berlin,th
e popular image of bees as the ultimate hard workers was inaccurate.“Al—though we see bees buzzing around tirelessly in spring and summer, the common belief in a bee’s busy nature is based on a misconception,” he said.People only really see bees when they’re out flying,or they look at a colony of bees and see thousands of them buzzing around. They don't get to pick them out as individuals. The professor, who this month won a German Zoological Society award for his work on bees, added that bees compensated for their apparent laziness with high intelligence, advanced memory skills and an ability to learn quickly.

The suggestion that bees were not pulling their weight met with skepticism from British beekeepers.Glyn Davies, the President of the British Beekeepers Association, said that bees were not lazy but efficient,“At any particular stage in its energy by doing nothing. Each bee has a unit of life energy and the faster it works, the faster it dies. They are being very wise and perhaps humans should try to follow their example instead of running about like headless chickens.”

The idea of the busy bee is several thousand years old.One current author who has nothing but admiration for the bee is Paul Theroux, the novelist and part-time beekeeper.“I have never seen a bee sleeping. My bees never stop working,”he said.Mr.

Theroux added that Prof.Menzel’s research could have been affected by his national origins.“Perhaps in comparison to the German rate of work, the bee does look lazy,”he said.

Few people think that the busy bee idea will go away, despite the efforts of Prof.Menzel.It seems absurd to apply the word“lazy”to a colony of creatures capable of producing something so extraordinary as honeycomb. The truth is that bees give us an inferiority complex that is not entirely unjustified. In fact, the worship of bees seems to be undergoing a renaissance.IBM recently ran a series of ads drawing on the“waggle dance”of bees, telling businessmen to“make your business waggle.”

38.According to Glyn Davies, what should we learn from bees?

A.How to work faster.

B.How to live longer.

C.How to cooperate with each other.

D.How to improve work efficiency.

The sense of sound is one of our most important means of knowing what is going on around u
s. Sound has a waste product, too, in the form. of noise. Noise has been called unwanted sound. Noise is growing and it may get much worse before it gets any better.

Scientists, for several years, have been studying how noise affects people and animals. They are surprised by what they have learned. Peace and quiet are becoming harder to find. Noise pollution is a threat that should be looked at carefully.

There is a saying that it is so noisy that you can't hear yourself think. Doctors who study noise believe that we must sometimes hear ourselves think. If we don't, we may have headaches, other aches and pains, or even worse mental problems.

Noise adds more tension to a society that already faces enough stress.

But noise is not a new problem. In ancient Rome, people complained so much about noise that the government stopped chariots(战车) from moving through the streets at night!

Ways of making less noise are now being tested. There are even laws controlling noise. We cannot return to the "good old days" of peace and quiet. But we can reduce noise—if we shout loudly enough about it.

Why are scientists surprised by the findings in their noise study?

A.Because the world is becoming increasingly noisy.

B.Because they have learned that noise is also is also a kind of pollution.

C.Because noise is an unwanted waste for human beings.

D.Because people knew little about noise before.

For anyone who is set on a career in fashion, it is not enough to have succeeded in colleg
e. The real test is whether they can survive and become established during their early 20s making a name for themselves in the real world where business skills can count for as much as flair(眼光) and creativity.

Fashion is a hard business. There is a continuous amount of stress because work is at a constant breakneck (高速而危险的) speed to prepare for the next season's collections. It is extremely competitive and there is the constant need to cultivate good coverage in newspapers and magazines. It al so requires continual freshness because the appetite for new ideas is hard to satisfy. "We try to warn people before they come to us about how tough it is," says Lydia Kemeny, the Head of Fashion at St. Martin's School of Art in London. "And we point out that drive and determination are essential."

This may seem far removed from the popular image of fashionable young people spending their time designing pretty dresses, That may well be what they do in their first year of study but a good college won't be slow in introducing students to commercial realities. "We don't stamp on the blossoming flower of creativity but in the second year we start introducing the constraints of price, manufacturability, marketing and so on."

Almost all fashion design is done to a brief. It is not a form. of self-expression as such, although there is certainly room for imagination and innovation. Most young designers are going to end up as employees of a manufacturer or fashion house and they still need to be able to work within the characteristic style. of their employer. Even those students who are most avant-garde (标新立异的) in their own taste of clothes and image may need to adapt to produce designs which are right for the main stream of market. They also have to be able to work at both tire exclusively expensive and the cheap end of the market and the challenge to produce good design inexpensively may well be demanding.

To be successful as a fashion designer you must ______.

A.have excellent academic qualifications

B.be able to handle business problems

C.be well established before you are 20

D.have taken an intensive commercial course

This is not the world we know. This world is controlled by computers. Men and women can
be seen, but they are following the orders given to them by machines. The machines were designed by mad scientists, but at some point even the mad scientists were taken over by their super-inventions.

Does this sound familiar? You have probably read something like it in magazines or books, or seen it in a film. Why is it so popular? One of the reasons is that it reflects the fears of many people; fear of the unknown fear of what is not understood or, at least, fear of something that is not completely understood.

The fact is that every day it seems that computers take control of another area of our lives. Some

factory jobs are now done by robots and the robots are controlled by computers. Our bank accounts are managed by computers. At the airport, our tickets are sold by a computer. Certainly, many of these operations are made more

efficient by computers, but our admiration is sometimes mixed with unsafe feelings. And this lack of safety is caused by the fact that we do not know how computers do these things, and we really don't know what they might do next. But we can find out how computers work, and once we understand them, we can use computers instead of worrying about being used by them. Today, there is a new generation of computer wizards who know exactly how computers get things done. These young men and women, usually university students, are happy to sit for hours, sometimes for days, designing programs, not eating, not sleeping, but discovering what can be done by these wonderful slaves which they have learned to control. These computer wizards have learned to use the computer and search for new tasks for their machines.

A:they don't know anything about computers

B:they haven't really understood computers

(3)、The author mentions computer wizards in order to point out that ______ .

A:computers can be controlled by man

B:there should be more people devoted to computers

C:only young people are interested in computers

D:more time and energy is required to control computers

(4)、This passage is probably written to suggest that ______ .

A:some day computers can deal with all human problems

B:computers can be used in place of traveling to our jobs

C:people should not fear computers

D:computer technology will not meet people's needs in various situations

(5)、The author's attitude towards widely used computers is __.

A:positive

B:anxious

C:worried

D:serious
